The Palestinians In The Diaspora
Abstract
The Palestinian diaspora is of recent origin. It resulted from the sudden upheaval and dispersal of the Arab population that was living in mandated Palestine. Being natives of Palestine, their uprooting and dispersal to other Arab countries turned them into a bitter and frustrated community living in the hope of returning home. Return was not so straightforward though, for what was their home had given birth to a newly settled community of Jews, mostly of European origin. Their new state was adamantly opposed to the return of the Palestinian refugees, seeing in them a threat to the realization of the Zionist ideal of the establishment of Israel as a Jewish state.
