Abstract

The reception accorded diasporas has been traditionally heavily influenced by the ethnographic composition and the ethno-political myths of the host society. Despite massive migrations, it is still the case that all but a relatively small percentage of the world’s population lives within an ethnic homeland. Indeed, a working definition of a diaspora might well be “that segment of a people living outside the homeland.”
