Abstract

Logic and reason are just one focus of the challenge to the ‘received view’ of science [ 1 ]. In the last chapter, we looked in particular at the way the strong programme in SSK took issue with the view that scientific knowledge was generated as a result of rational (reasonable, logical) extrapolation from either (or both) existing knowledge or observations of the world. In terms of our representation couple, critical attention was directed towards the character of the link between right-hand side and left-hand side: knowledge ___________ the world new knowledge ___________ old knowledge
