Abstract
Both contemporary philosophers and Aristotle scholars continue to debate whether the ontological distinction between energeia and dunamis can truly be established. Some contemporary metaphysicians express dissatisfaction with the static view implicit in a power-only ontology, suggesting instead that the dynamic aspects of power should be understood primarily through its actualization. However, this so-called activist approach is not without critique, as some philosophers question whether it truly offers a better perspective. In this section, I aim to explore the views put forward by some contemporary activists and their critics, then discuss how Aristotle understands complete activity as the great unifier, and finally examine whether Aristotle offers an alternative interpretation, including other approaches to hylomorphism and some popular frameworks in mainstream contemporary philosophical debates.
