Abstract

In order to practise single-session therapy well, you need to be focused on the work that your client has indicated that they want you to do with them. In a phrase, you need to concentrate on what the client is saying and what you are doing. One of the reasons why you might find it difficult to focus on the what of the therapeutic conversation between you and your client is that you have let your ego occupy a third chair in the room. When your ego is in the room then you tend to focus on how well or poorly you are doing rather than on what you and your client are discussing.
