Abstract

In Chapter 20 , I discussed that while clients seeking help for emotional and behavioural problems they have become stuck with is perhaps the most common type of help sought in SST, it is not the only type of help that clients say they want from this mode of therapy delivery. Some want to explore and understand their issue better, and once they have gained this understanding, they think they will be able to help themselves solve the issue based on this more profound understanding. Others want to express themselves and things off their chest. Yet others want help to make a decision or resolve a dilemma. It is important to keep in mind that each of these different types of help involves you using different methods. For example, methods to help your client solve a problem will be different from methods designed to help them explore and understand the same problem.
