Abstract

I mentioned earlier that while clients do seek different types of help from single-session therapy, the most frequently requested form of help is for an emotional/behavioural problem with which the person has become stuck ( Dryden, 2025b ). If your client requests such help, keep in mind that both of you will need to approach the session in a solution-focused frame of mind. When therapists think of becoming solution-focused in SST they think that this means that they have to use solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT) as an approach to do this ( Ratner, George and Iveson, 2012 ). However, this is not the case, you can use any way of helping your client to find a solution (including, of course, SFBT).
