Abstract

In conventional therapy, the therapist anticipates that the therapy will extend over multiple sessions and believes they have sufficient time to establish a strong foundation with the client, which will then support the development of the therapy over time. Thus, they will encourage the client to talk in an unstructured way at the beginning, so that the latter becomes accustomed to being in therapy and exploring themself. The therapist is concerned with letting therapy unfold and establishing and maintaining the therapeutic relationship, which practitioners who hold a conventional therapy mindset consider takes several sessions to set up and a lot more sessions to deepen ( Mearns and Cooper, 2018 ).
