Abstract

One of the fundamental conditions for the development of a rational transplantation therapy is the identification of a target population or populations of cells central to the disease process, which one consequently seeks to replace. This provides the biggest problem for developing an effective transplantation strategy for human dementia, namely the failure to identify the primary basis and critical neuropathology of the disease process. Indeed, this problem restricts at present even our ability to determine whether such a strategy might ever be feasible.
