Abstract

For many, spinal cord injury represents “the big one”—the ultimate challenge for repair of damage in the CNS (central nervous system). Not only is the challenge tinged with magic—making the lame walk— but success also involves regeneration and precise reconnection of some of the longest axons of the nervous system—the corticospinal and ascending sensory tracts. If we can achieve regeneration over these distances of this order with functional benefit then perhaps anything is within our grasp.
