The Hillfields Information Centre: A Case Study
Abstract
It is known that certain sections of the population are reluctant to approach formal agencies direct for help or advice. For example, in a 1 in 6 survey carried out by the CDP project in Hillfields in the summer of 1971 22 per cent of the households in the sample said that some member of their family suffered a handicap or disability which prevented them from leading a normal life or restricted their activities; but nearly half of those people, when asked if their names could be passed on to the Social Services Department to see if there was any help they could be given, declined this offer.
