Community Work
Abstract
Community work in a conceptualised form, with training, an association of community workers and a body of literature only dated from the late 1960s. It had actually been undertaken for years by settlements, community centres, clubs and councils of social service. Many self-help groups also existed, started for their own purposes and making their own decisions. But these diverse activities did not rest upon a common body of knowledge nor were they an identifiable movement.
