Abstract

The pressure for expanded training in the 1960s would have faced overwhelming obstacles from piecemeal and slow development and more uneven standards if it had not been for the initiative, standard setting and support services of the training councils - the CTC, the CTSW and the Training Committee of ACPAC. The Institute of Medical Social Workers (IMSW) and the Association of Psychiatric Social Workers (APSW) also played important parts in training. None the less there were obvious disadvantages in all these separate activities.
