Abstract

This chapter explores the value of career coaching for students and early-career professionals in healthcare administration. It explains that while mentors provide guidance, a professional coach offers personalized, structured support that helps clarify goals, navigate challenges, and build confidence. The chapter distinguishes between formal coaching, which uses structured methods, and informal coaching, which leverages insights from professional relationships. It also provides guidance on how to evaluate a coach’s background, assess fit, and understand when coaching is most beneficial. Readers are encouraged to seek both formal and informal support to strengthen self-awareness, leadership capacity, and career direction. Ultimately, this chapter highlights that the right coaching relationship can serve as a catalyst for professional growth and purposeful advancement in healthcare leadership.
