Abstract

As the pressures on tourism to become sustainable continue to mount in an increasingly turbulent business environment, this chapter draws on the recently established concept of the tourism entrepreneurial ecosystem (TEE). It seeks to answer how the TEE might shape the nature of sustainable tourism entrepreneurship in Cornwall. The chapter offers a case study on Cornwall, but implications can be drawn to similar environments globally. The focus on the TEE is appropriate because first, although much of the entrepreneurial ecosystems research focuses on high-growth entrepreneurship, the TEE aims at sustainable tourism. Second, eco- and social innovations are often regarded as key to tackling social and environmental challenges, including in tourism. How to support entrepreneurship and innovation lies at the heart of entrepreneurial ecosystems research, and so a focus on the TEE to support sustainable tourism is timely.
