Verb Retrieval and Sentence Construction: Effects of Targeted Intervention
Abstract
An inability to produce semantically appropriate and syntactically well formed spoken sentences is a symptom found very frequently in aphasia. Such an impairment can take many different forms, and can occur in conjunction with a variety of other symptoms. It is often the impairment that interferes most with patients’ functional recovery, and it is a frequent residual symptom after single word retrieval and language comprehension have improved to functional levels. Despite the pervasiveness and seriousness of sentence production deficits in aphasia, there are relatively few treatment options available to address these impairments.
