Abstract

It was once sufficient to compete by leveraging efficiency, digitization, and automation. Now, these are table stakes, and the precision of artificial intelligence is what is needed to differentiate and compete. The 43 principles in Return on Intelligence redefine how AI agents succeed inside complex institutions. This body of work is a transformation, a disciplined approach to converting technological potential into institutional permanence. The transformation is expressed in the capacity to influence decisions, orchestrate resources, shift behavior, and establish permanence. AI agents will not secure their place within the enterprise solely because of their novelty, nor will they succeed simply because of technical sophistication. The Concorde supersonic jet, Google Glass, and the Segway are examples of superior technologies that each failed to be generally adopted. The difference in an AI agent’s success and adoption will be whether it can secure legitimacy through economics, narrative, political alignment, and behavioral reinforcement. Return on Intelligence positions AI agents as instruments of enterprise influence via a framework that anchors on shaping perception, reconfiguring workflows, and altering decision-making structures. They should be deployed with a bold, unified strategy to unlock an enduring capability.
