Abstract

As with many other human endeavours, rugby is a field of efforts and contestations about honour and morality. Among other things, exploring the world of Springbok rugby with an eye on both honour and morality may invite new examinations of when the two coincide and when they converge. To this end, this conclusion revisits ubuntu to revitalise it. I call for a courageous rethinking of ubuntu , honour, and rugby to develop individual, social, and sporting praxes that grant everyone greater social justice and dignity. This is also to say that to move beyond histories of rugby being used to advance unjust racial and gender orderings of society, we must refuse to accept the licensing of oppression. We must root out systems of racial and male licences that legitimate unjust exclusions and domination of others. Rugby must go beyond this to license values and systems of inclusion and dignity. Rugby must be for everyone.
