Abstract

This chapter introduces the rationale for this book that makes a case for a plurilingual pedagogic approach in higher education. It will explain how the author&s;s biography influences the aim of the book and describes how the book is organised. It then progresses to providing the background for the pedagogic approach that will later unfold and explains how a particular aspect of internationalisation, student mobility, plays a role in this. It will discuss not only the broader reasoning for international student mobility from the perspective of receiving countries but also the motivations of students from the most prominent origin countries. Internationalisation more broadly and student mobility in particular are key concepts for this book, as without them the opportunities for engaging in plurilingual and intercultural pedagogy would not be absent, but would be fewer.
