Abstract

This chapter will bring the main points from all other chapters of the book together to develop a plurilingual pedagogic approach to English-Medium Instruction (EMI) in higher education (HE). The approach, which draws on EMI, translingual and bilingual pedagogies, is for use in non-language education contexts and is based on the teaching of disciplinary content from a global perspective with outcomes for the inclusion of linguistic diversity, an authentic experience of internationalisation at home (IaH) and the potential for intercultural interactions and learning that goes beyond large culture and soft-essentialist perspectives. The chapter sets out the principles, theories, syllabus design and teaching and learning activities for the pedagogy and explains how these interact with the principles of constructive alignment in order to maintain quality of education.
