Relevant elements of Calvin's life, person and theology
Abstract
Jean Calvin 3 (1509-1564) was born in France in Noyon. His mother was innkeeper, and his father was a notary and court clerk, who intended his three sons to become priests. Although Jean received his tonsure at the age of twelve and studied Latin, he was never ordained to the priesthood, but instead studied liberal arts in Paris and law at the University of Orlèans. Jean studied also in Bourges where he learned Koinè Greek and was influenced by humanism.
