Extraction of 17β Estradiol from Normal and Abnormal Endometrium
Abstract
The transport of 17β estradiol (E2) into the normal, hyperplastic and neoplastic endometrium was studied by the use of single injection technique of ( 3 H)-E2 and 14 C-butanol (as freely diffusible reference substance) during the extracorporeal perfusion of human uterus. The differential permeability of vascular beds in normal and abnormal endometrium to E2 was evaluated. When protein-free Ringer’s solution was used, E2 was found to be freely diffusible into the normal and abnormal endometrium, while the extraction of E2 from human serum was 98 significantly higher in the hyperplastic and carcinomatous endometrium than in the proliferative one.
