Abstract

This paper summarizes the research into precursors of influenza epidemics conducted by the authors over many years. The findings are compared with those of other Soviet and foreign researchers. The emphasis is on the purpose-oriented identification of such precursors for the etiological prediction of influenza outbreaks in particular populated settlements, areas, or the country as a whole. The theoretical and practical aspects of established epidemiological patterns of influenza outbreaks are discussed.
