Abstract

Pronunciation is central to language proficiency, yet has been relatively neglected in teaching. This paradox led us to emphasize pronunciation pedagogy in this volume, while recognizing that empirical research increasingly examines how pronunciation fits with other language skills. We identified five themes that recur in discussions of pronunciation teaching: goals, teachers and learners, technology, instructional approaches, and empirical approaches to learning.
