Abstract

A minority of Korean composers write ‘creative traditional music’ (ch’angjak kugak) , new music for Korean instruments. An alternative designation, but one less regularly encountered, is ‘new traditional music’ ( shin kugak). I use the former term here; this has the advantage of making little implicit distinction between ‘composition’, ‘stitching’, ‘reorganization’ and ‘formation’.
