The Priory of The Holy Trinity, York: Antiquarians and Architectural History
Abstract
In the rush to study the architectual history of the Minster and St Mary’s Abbey, York’s other monastic church, that of the Benedictine priory of the Holy Trinity in Micklegate, has been relatively ignored. 1 This is unjust. Physically the monastery dominated the south-west bank of the Ouse ( Fig. 1 ) — the priory church was over zio ft long (i.e. it was of similar size to Hexham or Kirkstall) and in its institutional history, also, it is a house of some significance.
