Abstract

A criticism that is often presented against Parsons is that because of his emphasis on integration at the normative level his analysis is unable to account for social change and, as Bryan Turner suggests, it is also assumed that ‘social change can only be grasped by a theory which has an eye for conflict and contradiction’ (1986: 200).
