Abstract

Inasmuch as the sustained political relevance of regions depends on people considering them to be relevant to their activities, the study of regions must in some way include the study of meaning and identity. The main objective of this chapter is to analyse the relevance of ‘regions’ in general and more specifically the case of the Mediterranean ‘region’.
