Orthodox Mystical Tradition and the Comparative Study of Religion: An Experimental Synthesis
Abstract
Even before Ansgar Paus’s connection of Eliade’s methodology to Eastern Orthodox iconography, A. F. C. Webster had suggested a strong connection between Eliade’s understanding of religion and the Orthodox tradition. The real extent of this connection and the possible roots of Eliade’s understanding of religion in Orthodox theology remains to be fully explored.
