Using effective language-learning strategies
Abstract
Cohen (1998 : 4) defines language-learning strategies as: ‘processes which are consciously selected by learners and which may result in action taken to enhance the learning or use of a second or foreign language, through, retention, recall, and application of information about that language’. Similarly, Oxford (1990 : 8) states that ‘Learning strategies are operations employed by the learner to aid the acquisition, storage, retrieval, and use of information’. Language-learning strategies are an important part of language learning.Their purpose is to enhance learning, to perform specified tasks and solve specific problems to aid the acquisition of language, to make learning easier, faster, and more enjoyable as well as to compensate for a deficit in learning ( Cohen, 2007 : 38).
