Abstract

Each wetland is varied in size and utilizes water in different ways. The movement and quality of water are measured through the science of hydrology, which comes from the Greek term hydrologia , meaning the “study of water.” Hydrology plays a critical role in a wetland’s health and biotic stability. A wetland depends on the inflow and outflow of water, called the hydrologic cycle, to maintain healthy levels of nutrients, sediment, and organic matter.
