Belarusian Perspectives on National Security and Belarusian Military Policy
Abstract
One of the main functions of every state is to secure its own safety. This is done by demonstrating resistance to all kinds of external threats, and especially by demonstrating the capacity to fight if war should come. The basic requirements and provisions concerning the rules and methods by which this security function is fulfilled are usually outlined in the national security strategy. An integral part of this strategy is a military doctrine that provides a strategic concept for a state to maintain and use its armed forces so that they can withstand attack in case of war.
