Abstract

In a number of technologies, gas is dispersed in very viscous and often rheologically-complex liquids. Examples of this requirement are found in the polymer and fermentation industries. In both of these examples, the process is generally conducted batchwise. Initially the fluid is often Newtonian with a viscosity close to that of water and becomes increasingly viscous, pseudoplastic and viscoelastic with the passage of time.
