Abstract

Scale-up involves the translation of data on a small scale to production size equipment. Mixing involves many different kinds of operations, and there is no one scale-up rule that applies to all of these operations. This article summarizes the difference in many physical and mass transfer mixing parameters between large tanks and small tanks, and reviews some of the rationale for using different scale-up concepts for various kinds of mixing operations.
