Synthesis of Putative Epoxyestrenone Intermediates in the Metabolism of Estradiol
Abstract
Despite the fact that estradiol (1) has been recognized as the major mammalian female sex hormone for nearly sixty years little is known about its mode of action at the molecular level. This current lack of knowledge requires all the more to be remedied in view of the recent, unequivocal establishment of the fact that the use of estradiol in estrogen replacement therapy is accompanied by a statistically significant increase in cancer . 1
