Abstract

As implied by our definition of evolution (changes in organization persisting over more than one generation), changes in the organization of ecosystems can be called evolution and are of equivalent importance. There is, however, no commonly used term for this type of change in organization; therefore, I shall call it ecoevolution, or ecosystem change.
