The proactive society and economic theory
Abstract
This chapter examines the issue of how the advent of the proactive society can help advance various areas of economic theory, including considerations of scarcity, value, capital, production, monopoly, competition, welfare, distribution, employment, labor, rationality, and efficiency. In doing so, it attempts to bring into sharper focus, among other things, the qualitative character of scarcity, the educational character of employment, the combinatorial character of capital, the multidimensional character of welfare, and the processual character of efficiency. It also tries to demonstrate that such theoretical refinements can, in turn, help in making the most of the novel developments that led to their formulation.
