Abstract

This Health Education Council-funded research and development project has two major aims: to establish what might be the most promising avenues for health education into the curriculum of teacher education courses; to develop materials appropriate to each of these avenues. This initial research concerned itself with finding out what health education is being taught in schools and sampling the opinions of senior school staff about health education in teacher education. This was followed by an enquiry about the place of health education in the teacher education courses and contact with individual tutors responsible for such work. The final phase of the project will be directed towards the development and trial of materials appropriate to initial teacher education courses.
