Abstract

The FPA’s educational work has evolved from running training courses in contraceptive techniques for doctors and nurses, to holding courses in family planning appreciation for groups like health visitors and social workers, to running courses in sex education and personal relationships for a wide range of professional groups. The methods used have also changed. The courses aim to 360 enable participants to improve and develop their own strategies and skills, rather than offering instant solutions or ‘packages’. Although one major target group is teachers, in general their uptake of courses has been lower than other groups. The paper describes the setting up of one course for teachers from a London borough which was held in June and July 1982.
