Remembering a Century: Mourning a Lack and a Loss of Power
Abstract
What does it mean to remember a century, a century that has passed, has, in a sense, just passed away? 1 If this passing away signifies the death of a century—and I think it does, for even a century has a life and a certain life span, one hundred years that we give to it—then, does this death need to be mourned, in the same way that we mourn the death of a person who is close to us and who is, so to speak, a part of our life?
