Abstract

The roots of violence go into the nature of jîva . 1 What is jîva? Jîva is that which lives, that which is alive. But what is the nature of jîva? Being alive, jîva tries to prolong its life. In order to do that, jîva eats and consumes other jîvas, or it kills them trying to defend itself. By doing one or both of these things, jîva keeps itself alive. However, by doing these things jîva extinguishes the life of other jîvas.
