Abstract

It is commonly believed that Maurice Blanchot was a precursor of the so-called poststructuralist movement. However, if there was indeed such a thing as poststructuralism, Blanchot belonged to the very heart of this movement, he was located at its very centre. It is also true that some of the changes that took place both in the content and the form of the discourse in the West, with the result that the changed discourse came to be called poststructuralism, began much earlier, even a bit earlier than what is called structuralism, and the person who began them was Maurice Blanchot. Finally, it is quite clear that in some respects Blanchot went further than poststructuralism.
