A New Dawn in the Northeast
Abstract
The policy of divide and rule constructed by the post-colonial Nehruvian state used identity to create separate identities in the Northeast. This process was ahistorical, for as it overlooks the continuity of cultural influences of Vaishnavism and Shakti worship and practices. Tribal culture has continuities with Bharatiya culture rather than with those of the invaders. The colonial project was employed to construct a false consciousness; thus, it was easy to alienate and convert. Since 2014, a paradigm shift has taken place to unite the Northeast as an integral of the Indic civilisation state, where cultural diversity is celebrated as in all other regions and states.
