Abstract

rudyard kipling was born in 1865, in Bombay, where his father taught pottery and sculpture in a recently established School of Art. John Lockwood Kipling had been unable to marry, for lack of funds, until 1864, when he got this job in India; which was created as part of the spread outwards to the empire of the movement of Art-and-Industry, an attempt to ally high standards of craftsmanship and taste to the new industrial techniques and the new commercial opportunities of the mid-nineteenth century.
