PHPP Primary Energy Basics
Abstract
This chapter explains how to input data into PHPP to assess a building’s total energy use. In the Passive House Standard this is expressed as Specific Primary Energy Renewable Demand (PER)? As detailed in Chapter 2 , this metric accounts for all energy use - both regulated and unregulated - along with losses from energy generation, distribution and storage. This makes PER fundamentally different from UK compliance tools such as the Standardised Assessment Procedure (SAP), Simplified Building Energy Model (SBEM) and the Home Energy Model (HEM), which is still in development at the time of writing. These tools exclude not only generation, distribution and storage losses but also all unregulated energy use.
