Abstract

The media landscape has experienced dramatic changes over the last 20 years and the architectural media has evolved in tandem. In the late 1990s, getting published in The New York Times was the pinnacle of PR achievement. In fact, the paper’s architecture critic, the late Herbert Muschamp, could make or break careers. A testament to his influence is the legendary 5,000- word Guggenheim Bilbao article he penned that cemented Frank Gehry’s superstar status. 1 Print journalists’ positive and negative perspectives had the power to sway public perception.
