Abstract

One fundamental truth in marketing, regardless of the sector you work in, is that consumers like to buy award-winning products. Paradoxically, unlike other approaches I’ve highlighted, this is one part of marketing that architects actually do seem to enjoy, and many have mastered. Awards are a real industry when you discover that often you have to pay for them. The more media attention the awards generate, the more expensive they are. With the exception of a few prestigious ones, the days of passively receiving an award have long since passed, so the ‘business’ of pursuing them represents both a financial investment and an important opportunity. I ensure that each of our completed projects receives an award by strategically submitting projects in categories for contests where they stand a strong chance of winning.
