Abstract

According to legend in the public relations world, Bill Gates is responsible for this powerful piece of advice. Whether or not this is true, it isn’t surprising that his name is linked to this quote, as he has personally experienced the effects of good PR. This advice rings true across industries. The sports-brand behemoth Nike spent a whopping $3.75 billion in 2019 on PR and marketing alone. 1 While IT and sports moguls embrace PR’s value, in the typical architecture practice it can be a dirty word. Its value and influence are often belittled. How many times have I heard an architect mutter dismissively, It’s a PR story’, if they think that PR has manipulated public perception?
