Abstract

The present study was designed to validate a Dutch adaptation of the StateTrait Anxiety Inventory for Children (STAIC) (Spielberger, Edwards, Lushene, Montouri, & Platzek, 1973). The STAIC consists of two 20-item scales for measuring state and trait anxiety. State anxiety (A-State) refers to the emotional reactions that are evoked in individuals who interpret specific situations as personally threatening. These reactions are characterized by “feelings of tension and apprehension, and by heightened autonomic nervous system activity” ( Spielberger, 1972 , pp. 30-31).
