Christianity
Abstract
This chapter flows from early cinematic spectacles rooted in biblical narratives to reverential portraits of modest priests and nuns. Yet, as Christianity&s;s cultural primacy shifted in the West, new emphases upon saints and sinners emerged in film genres from violent westerns to supernatural horror. A new generation of faith-fueled filmmakers have eschewed special effects, adopting a more transcendental style, depicting Christian practice in quieter ways.
